A Giving Garden Winter
It’s time to get festive…🎄🎄🎄
Each year, as the daylight grows shorter and the cool days of Fall usher in leafless trees and frosty starts to my mornings, there is a moment that comes mid-November, when the air smells just right and the sun lingers just so in the western sky. It is that moment when I know it is time to prep for the holiday season by packing away all things orange, rust, and yellow and bringing out all things red, green, gold and silver…and maybe some blue, purple and pink (think Advent).
If you’re like me, fresh native greens with all their textures and fragrance are essential for creating unique, long lasting pieces. After a couple of hard frosts, we begin harvesting about a dozen species of locally sourced evergreens and a half dozen types of cones. Working these elements in differing combinations is how our moss based wreaths and other pieces are created. Boxwood trees are created from Virginian boxwood and embellished with cones, ribbons, and lots of natural materials such as the flowers we dry from our gardens.
Whether formal or more relaxed in design, adding the colors, textures, and fragrances of the season is one way to enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us, creating a festive atmosphere and reflecting your personal style as you celebrate the holidays.
